Alias: Shanjuqiong, Xiongxiong, Xiangguo, Huxiong, Mabit, Xiongxiong, Quenaoxiong, Jingxiong, Guanxiong, etc.
It is the dried rhizome of Ligusticum chuanxiong, a perennial herbaceous plant of the Umbelliferae family. This product is an irregular nodular fist-shaped mass with a yellowish-brown to yellowish-brown skin, rough and wrinkled. It is solid and not easy to break. The cross section is yellow-white or gray-yellow, with a wavy annular cambium layer and yellow-brown oil spots scattered throughout. The smell is strong and fragrant, and the taste is bitter and pungent. There is a slight numbing sensation on the tongue, slightly sweet, and a numbing sensation on the tongue. The best ones are large and plump, solid in texture, yellow-white in cross-section, oily and strong in aroma.

Meridian tropism of nature and flavor:
Pungent and warm in nature; returns to liver, gallbladder, and heart meridians.

Functional features:
It has the effects of promoting blood circulation and qi, dispelling wind and relieving pain. It is used for irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, dystocia, retained afterbirth, postpartum lochia, abdominal pain, lumps, pain in the chest, chest and flanks, swelling and pain from bruises, headache, dizziness and dark eyes, wind-cold-dampness, numbness of the limbs, and carbuncle sores.

Ancient books record:
"Medicine Qiyuan": "Nourishes blood, cures headache due to blood deficiency. Wang Haogu: Searches for liver qi, nourishes liver blood, moistens liver dryness, and nourishes wind deficiency."
"Shen Nong's Materia Medica" states that Ligusticum Chuanxiong is "mainly responsible for headaches, cold paralysis, spasticity, golden sores, blood constriction in women and childlessness in people with stroke."
"Medicinal Property Theory": "Cures weakness in the waist and feet, hemiplegia, inability to come out of the cell membrane, and cold and pain in the abdomen."

Usual dosage:
Oral administration: decoction, 3-10g; for external use, grind an appropriate amount into powder and sprinkle; or decoction and gargle.

Things to note:
It is not suitable for people with yang deficiency and weak qi, labor heat and excessive sweating, qi reversal and vomiting, liver yang headache, menorrhagia, pregnant women, and bleeding disorders;
People with upper and lower deficiency and weak qi should not take it, and those with yin deficiency and strong fire should not take it;
"Materia Medica Mengquan": astragalus, dogwood, wolfsbane. Fear of saltpeter, talc, and coptis. Veratrum veratrum.
